MCM Comic Con Returns To London

MCM Comic Con London, Europe’s largest Comic Con event returns after an enforced hiatus, and ThatHashTagShow is here to break it down for you.

After false starts, earlier this year from the two major London cons have returned. MCM Comic Con London (ReedPop) and London Film & Comic Con (Showmasters) are both going forward this year. We finally see what Post Covid Cons in the UK look like.

As an avid fan of geek culture, I have been attending MCM Comic Cons since 2013. During that time I watched a parade of stars attend the event at the Excel Centre each year. And while the big names of Film, TV, and content creation are great it is the attendees who make the event. It is nice and still too rare to have such a collection of accepting like-minded people who are really enthusiastic about a shared subject.

MCM Comic Con London and events like it around the world allow enthusiasts to get together and talk about their favorite show, film, or comic. Outside of more densely populated areas, it is easy to find yourself alone in liking that book, TV show, or obscure anime, step into London Excel and those things are no longer obscure they are the norm.

Tom Hiddleston

Hiddleston is a Golden Globe and Laurence Olivier Award-winning British Actor known for playing Loki in a number of projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also known for War Horse (2011), The Deep Blue Sea (2011), and the limited series The Night Manager (2016).

Sophia Di Martino

Sophia Di Martino is a British actress known for playing Sylvie in Marvel’s Loki. She has previously starred in Flowers (2016-2018) and appeared in AMC’s Into The Badlands and Dark Comedy film The Darkest Universe.

Jonathan Majors

Majors’ break-out role was indie film The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019). He followed that up by starring in HBO’s Lovecraft Country before joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the MCU he can currently be seen as “He Who Remains” on Marvel’s Loki, he is currently filming Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Charlie Cox

Cox a British actor known widely portraying Matt Murdock / Daredevil in Netflix series Daredevil (2015–2018) and The Defenders (2017), Jonathan Hellyer Jones in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything, and Owen Sleater in the second and third seasons of HBO‘s Boardwalk Empire (2011–2012). His breakout role was as Tristan Thorn in the 2007 fantasy film Stardust.

Deborah Ann Woll

The New York-born actress known for playing Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood (2008-2014) and perhaps equally for portraying Karen Page on Marvel’s Daredevil (2015-2018), The Defenders (2017), and The Punisher (2017-2019).

Gabriel Luna

Luna is an American actor and producer known for his role as Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He is set to spear in the upcoming TV adaption of the hit video game franchise The Last of Us.

Ben Barnes

Barnes is a British actor and singer well known for his role as Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia. He has gone on to appear as Logan Delos in Westworld and Billy Russo on Marvel’s The Punisher. His latest role is as General Kirigan in the Netflix adaption of Shadow & Bone

As well as the guests who will be available for signings, photoshoots, and talks there are also booths. Everything from Japanese food, merchandise to popular comic artists’ artwork is available. There will also be a number of panels as well.

Cosplay

Cosplay is synonymous with MCM Comic Con, indeed every year there are dozens of official and unofficial cosplay meetups that take place in the area around the venue. The Con also often hosts the European Cosplay championships which attract hugely popular cosplay stars. More than the competition and celebrity cosplayers it is about would be and up and coming cosplayers getting a chance to express themselves.
