We are just a week away from Critical Role’s third campaign starting up. Alongside that, their first novel releases soon, and their new adventure with WOTC is out in March. But soon we might see Critical Role jump into two new mediums.
The news comes by way of a feature in Variety. One of the interesting things mentioned in the feature is that the cast is exploring the potential of doing a full-length feature film set within the world of Exandria. Now, this is interesting because we don’t know if it will be live-action or animated. However, a film set in their fantasy world would be interesting to see.
But the other thing mentioned was that they are in the early stages of making a video game based on their characters and the world their game is based in. Now Matthew Choen, one of the agents in the Gaming Department of CAA who works with the show, said:
“We have to be very particular about what that means and who the partners are.”
Now, with this game still in the early development stages, they are in talks with a lot of studios and publishers to figure the game out. What could happen is that they work with Obsidian Entertainment on this game. If you remember, Critical Role had their Campaign 1 characters added in as a free voice and portrait DLC pack in Pillars Of Eternity 2: Deadfire.
So this news is not much of a surprise, but it shows us fans that Critical Role is committed to making more content beyond the web series. But they are also looking into other mediums and wanting to expand their reach in new ways.
