I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Technology-controlled home locks are just made to be hacked by killers.
Ghostface is with me on this one, as the latest flick in the Scream franchise sees the killer take advantage of just those locks to break into the home of one of his victims. That’s right, Paramount debuted the first trailer for the fifth Scream film today.
The trailer features a callback to the opening of the original 1996 Scream, which saw Drew Barrymore answer a phone call from Ghostface before he kills her in her home. The updated flick follows similar beats, only this time it’s Jenna Ortega (and Ghostface can text as well as call.)
Watch Ghostface slash their way through a new generation of teens in the official trailer below.
And of course, Scream wouldn’t be Scream without our favorite recurring survivors of the previous films. Courteney Cox will reprise her franchise role as Gale Weathers. Other returning cast members include Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and David Arquette as Dewey Riley.
“It’s happening again,” says Arquette’s Dewey as he calls up Campbell. “Do you have a gun?”
“I’m Sidney Prescott,” she replies. “Of course I have a gun.”
We don’t get too much detail about the plot of the upcoming movie, but no surprise there. Part of the appeal of Scream is how the movies keep you guessing about the identity of the killer. Though we do get a hint from this trailer; Ghostface seems to attack people related to the original killers.
You can get a closer look at the characters in the film in the first look images released yesterday.
