John Cena is ready to bring peace – and unshakeable self confidence – as DC’s latest hero.
The HBO series Peacemaker follows the events of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and sees Cena’s character set out on his own mission.
But Peacemaker doesn’t automatically inspire reverence and respect from his new teammates.
Watch them drag everything from his clothes to his pet bald eagle in the exclusive clip below.
“Did this dipshit really show up in full cosplay mode?” asks Steve Agee’s John Economos.
The rest of the team – including Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), and Celmson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) – similarly trash-talk Peacemaker, who steadfastly defends his white-pants-red-shirt combo and the fact that his pet eagle is named Eagley.
(One thing they can all agree on? Their hatred of Amanda Waller.)
Peacemaker was last seen in a hospital bed following the events of The Suicide Squad. Gunn, who directed the film, created the Peacemaker spinoff series. He will also direct several episodes.
“Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero-supervillain-and world’s biggest douchebag,” Gunn said. “I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”
Peter Safran produces the show, which received an eight-episode order from HBO Max. The teaser revealed the series will start streaming in January 2022.
HBO Max dropped this exclusive Peacemaker clip during a virtual launch event for the platform in Europe. Fans also got their first look at Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.
