HBO has released the hot new trailer for their upcoming series House of the Dragon, a prequel series to the popular Game of Thrones franchise.
Damon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith, narrates throughout the trailer. Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, which is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” tells the story of House Targaryen.
The teaser features the first official footage from the highly anticipated series, which contained several previously announced cast members in addition to the following newly revealed cast:
- Wil Johnson as Ser Vaemond Velaryon – Younger brother to Coryls Velaryon and commander in the Velaryon navy
- John Macmillan as Ser Laenor Velaryon – Son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen
- Savannah Steyn as Lady Laena Velayron – Daughter of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen
- Theo Nate as Ser Laenor Velaryon – Son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen
The House of the Dragon series will focus on the Targaryen civil war and the eventual fall of their kingdom at the hand of the Mad King. George R.R. Martin is on as Co-creator and Executive Producer.
If you don’t already know, the cast for this highly anticipated series is star-studded! Scenes will be filled with phenomenal acting. Game of Thrones original composer Ramin Djawadi also returns to give the show its huge sense of gravitas.
So far, it’s unclear if the series is going to work in a ton of flashbacks considering we see both young and old Rhaenyra Targaryen. One can only hope that it’s a smooth transition between scenes.
Connections to the Original Series
If you are stopping frame by frame you’ll see a very familiar Valyrian dagger. A House Stark crest on the jousting horse.
Can we talk about Iron Throne?!?! With the massive amount of melted swords covering the throne room as opposed to the height, we see in the books.
With some sets being recycled, you can bet there will be plenty of subtle changes to find. Possibly, an ancient Starbucks cup!
