This chocolate factory is about to be filled with familiar faces. Warner Bros. just announced a ton of stars for Wonka.
The film, which just entered production in the UK, stars Timothée Chalamet as the notorious chocolate maker. Wonka is based on the character of Willy Wonka, created by Roald Dahl for his children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. However, this new film explores Wonka’s earlier years, prior to the events of the novel.
An impressive list of actors now join Chalamet, including Oscar winner Olivia Colman and Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins and Mr. Bean himself, Rowan Atkinson. Additional stars of Wonka include:Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Keegan-Michael Key, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Colin O’Brien, Natasha Rothwell, Rakhee Thakrar, and Ellie White.
Wonka comes from a team of Paddington alums, including director Paul King, who co-wrote the script with Simon Farnaby. Oscar-nominated David Heyman (Harry Potter) and Alexandra Derbyshire (Jurassic World: Dominion) produce the film. Luke Kelly, who recently produced the feature adaptation of Dahl’s The Witches, also produces.
The film also comes from an award-worthy production team, including Oscar-nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey (Anna Karenina, Atonement); Oscar-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (Tenet, Dunkirk); editor Mark Everson and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (the Paddington films). Wonka will also include original songs written by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy.
Wonka plans to release March 17, 2023.
