It looks like Nintendo is sending our lovable pink puffball, Kirby, on a new adventure now. And my god, judging from the trailer, it’s…adorable. Despite its postapocalyptic setting.
As the leak earlier today on September 23, 2021 ahead of Nintendo Direct indicated, Kirby is getting a new open world action-adventure game. This particular Kirby game is called Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as you can see in the new trailer above. The game will be for the Nintendo Switch, as expected.
The release date is a bit mysterious. The trailer itself and the video description claim a vague release date of Spring 2022. However, Kotaku further narrows down the date to April 2022. It’s unclear where they got that release date from, since Nintendo’s own website on Kirby and the Forgotten Land also gives us that same vague Spring 2022 release date. With the lack of a source for Kotaku‘s info, it might be safe to take it with a grain of salt. At the very least, it’s smarter to wait for confirmation from Nintendo before trusting it.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Details
As you can see in the trailer above, Kirby is friggin’ adorable in this game. In fact, Kirby and the Forgotten Land as a whole is far more adorable than it has any right to be for a postapocalyptic game. I mean, even the enemies look like they’ll give you a case of diabetes just from looking at them.
And yet, somehow, it works in the pink puffball’s favor. The world of Kirby and the Forgotten Land is as bleak as it is strangely cute. It’s a bizarre contrast that somehow looks like it would work. The official synopsis from Nintendo only adds to the hype:
Take control of the powerful pink puffball, Kirby, and move around freely in 3D stages as you discover a mysterious world with abandoned structures from a past civilization—like a shopping mall?! Copy enemies’ abilities like Sword and Ice and use them to attack and explore your surroundings! What journey awaits Kirby? Take a deep breath and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
Conclusion
Kirby is getting a new open world postapocalyptic action-adventure game for the Nintendo Switch in the form of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The brand new trailer from Nintendo Direct 9.23.2021 confirms just how friggin’ adorable it is. It also reveals that we’ll get to see the pink puffball in his new adventure sometime in Spring 2022. We’ll just have to wait for official word from Nintendo for a more specific release date later.
