Nintendo has just announced on their Facebook and Direct Livestream some new exciting news! The animation studio Illumination who has brought us the Despicable Me films as well as Sing and The Lorax, are behind bringing one of the most beloved video game characters to life. The feature film adaptation of Super Mario Bros. will be released in the United States on December 21st, 2021.

WHOS IS PART OF THE OFFICIAL VOICE CAST FOR SUPER MARIO BROS.?

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto also said, while they don’t have footage just yet to reveal… They have announced the official cast for the film! The cast is as follows: Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan Michael-Key (Toad), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), Fred Armisen (Cranky Kong), Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek), Sebastian Maniscalco (Spike) and veteran Nintendo voice actor Charles Martinet in undisclosed cameos.

There is a lot to take away from this information. So, we now know that rather than keeping this strictly a Super Mario Bros. film… We are getting characters from Donkey Kong, as well. Is a Nintendo Extended Universe upon us? I definitely hope so. Time will tell how Chris Pratt and Charlie Day will be able to pull off these iconic Italian plumber brothers voices. But, I believe this is an extremely talented cast and this announcement has skyrocketed my anticipation for this film! Although Illumination is definitely not my favorite animation studio, I believe that their talents mixed with Nintendo is a match made in heaven!

What are your thoughts on the cast for the animated Super Mario Bros. film? Are you excited to see Mario on the big screen?

Super Mario Bros: The Movie premieres on December 21st, 2021.
