From Westeros to Nevermore, HBO to Netflix… Gwendoline Christie will dive into a new epic genre series.
Christie has officially joined the cast of Wednesday, the upcoming live-action Addams Family series. The sleuthing, supernaturally-infused mystery follows Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Christie will play Larissa Weems, the principal of Nevermore Academy who still has an axe to grind with her former classmate Morticia Addams.
Christie joins the previously announced Addamses, including lead Jenna Ortega as Wednesday.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán play the heads of the family, Morticia and Gomez. Rounding out the Addams clan are Issac Ordonez as Pugsley, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, and George Burcea as Lurch.
The series sees Wednesday attempt to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
The coming-of-age dramedy comes from Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. Tim Burton will direct. The trio executive produce the series.
Christie received a best supporting actor Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Brienne of Tarth in HBO’s Game of Thrones. She also joined the Star Wars franchise in The Force Awakens as Captain Phasma. Christie will soon appear in another huge adaptation for Netflix: Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.
She joins the series following a large batch-casting announcement of regulars at Nevermore Academy. The announcement included Thora Birch, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Emma Myers, Naomi J. Ogawa, Joy Sunday, and Percy Hynes White. We don’t have a release date for Netflix’s Wednesday just yet. But check back to THS for more updates.
