HBO Max is in the market for more DC/The Batman content. With a series based on the Gotham PD already on the way, Variety is reporting that they’ve ordered a series based on The Penguin. The character is in the upcoming film, The Batman and is played by Colin Farrell. According to their sources though, Farrell hasn’t signed on to play the character in the series. They’re also reporting that Lauren LeFranc is attached to write the script.
This is all based on Variety’s insider sources and is in early development at the moment. As for the plot, that’s also a bit thin. It’s supposed to delve into how the character rose to power in Gotham City. Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark are on board as Executive Producers.
The Penguin’s role in The Batman is also somewhat shrouded with Paul Dano‘s Riddler taking the top villain slot in the film. That film releases in theaters March 2022. This would be the second series at HBO Max from that film, following with Gotham PD. Warner and DC are trying to set up a connected universe from the film. Other DC series coming on HBO Max include: Peacemaker, Green Lantern/Lantern Corps, and Justice League Dark coming from JJ Abrams. It’s an exciting time to be a DC media fan.
We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops. So, what do you think of a show about The Penguin?
