It’s not often you see a movie fronted by two popular comedians that makes you say Pass the tissues. But this drama starring Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd looks like you’re gonna need the whole box.
The Starling tells the story of a couple grieving the loss of their child. You can watch the trailer for the Netflix movie below.
As you can see in the trailer, the film grabs its title from the Starling bird. Here’s the official synopsis of the movie from Netflix:
After Lilly (McCarthy) suffers a loss, a battle with a territorial bird (The Starling) over dominion of her garden provides an unlikely avenue for her grief and the courage to heal her relationships and rediscover her capacity for love.
In addition to McCarthy and O’Dowd, the film stars Kevin Kline as the therapist-turned-vet-turned-therapist again. Other stars include Timothy Olyphant, Daveed Diggs, Skyler Gisondo, Loretta Devine, Laura Harrier, Rosalind Chao, and Kimberly Quinn.
The Starling comes from writer Matt Harris and director Theodore Melfi (Hidden Figures). The feature is also a reunion for Melfi, McCarthy, and O’Dowd, who all worked on 2014’s St. Vincent together.
The Starling will premiere in select theaters September 17. It hits Netflix streaming a week later on September 24. So, blink away those tears and mark your calendars for this one.
