If you were waiting for either Mayim Bialik or LeVar Burton to be the next host of Jeopardy, you’ll be disappointed. The executive producer of Jeopardy, Mike Richards has been chosen as the new host. He’ll be replacing the late, great, Alex Trebek. Richards is embattled in controversy surrounding discrimination lawsuits against him. Richards previously guest-hosted the program in the time between hosts. Other hosts included: Joe Buck, Aaron Rodgers, LeVar Burton, Ken Jennings, and more.
Ravi Ahuja, Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development for Sony Pictures had this to say:
We are thrilled to begin the next chapter of America’s Favorite Quiz Show with Mike hosting our daily show and Mayim hosting new versions of Jeopardy! We took this decision incredibly seriously. A tremendous amount of work and deliberation has gone into it, perhaps more than has ever gone into the selection of hosts for a show – deservedly so because it’s Jeopardy! and we are following the incomparable Alex Trebek. A senior group of Sony Pictures Television executives pored over footage from every episode, reviewed research from multiple panels and focus groups, and got valuable input from our key partners and Jeopardy! viewers.
So while Bialik didn’t get the syndicated hosting job, she did get the primetime version of the show. So that’s a bit of a silver lining in the whole thing. We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops.
So, what do you think of Mike Richards for the host?
