Amazon has dropped the official trailer for its Cinderella reimagining starring Camila Cabello. The retooling of the classic fairytale is written and directed by Kay Cannon (Blockers, Pitch Perfect) and based upon an original idea from James Corden. It also stars Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine, Billy Porter and Pierce Brosnan. Cinderella is produced by Leo Pearlman, James Corden, Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh. Here is the logline for the film:

Cinderella is a modern musical with a bold take on the story you grew up with. Our ambitious heroine (Camilla Cabello) has big dreams and with the help of her Fab G (Billy Porter), she perseveres to make them come true.

Although… I’m sure this new Cinderella will be full of fun dance numbers and catchy tunes, I can’t help but feel like this story is overdone. We just had the 2015 Kenneth Branagh-helmed, Lily James-Led Disney film which was very well received, and now this? It just seems a little too soon to be diving into this already played-out story. BUT, Billy Porter looks like he is having an absolute blast playing the Fairy G and Idina Menzel seems perfectly cast as the evil stepmother. And Kay Cannon has shown she has a deft hand at creative offbeat humor in her past projects. So, there is a chance that this Cinderella, might be a magical and entertaining retelling. I just hope it really sets itself apart from the others and gives us something fresh and new.
