Disney and LucasFilm are making solid progress on their Star Wars shows. The Book of Boba Fett has reportedly wrapped filming. Plus, the shoots for the third season of The Mandalorian begin soon.
Actor Giancarlo Esposito confirmed the news recently at Raleigh’s GalaxyCon. During an interview with local outlet WRAL, Esposito said, “They just finished shooting Boba Fett and soon they will start on Season 3 of The Mandalorian.” Esposito plays Imperial Remnant Commander Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian.
The actor’s statements appear to confirm an earlier report that The Mandalorian would begin production in September.
During the same interview, Esposito was asked about the schedule of his co-star Pedro Pascal. Pascal plays the lead role of Din Djarin in the series. But he’s also set to appear in the upcoming series adaptation of HBO’s The Last of Us, which is currently filming in Canada. When asked if The Mandalorian would have to wait for Pascal to return to production, Esposito said, “I don’t know what Pedro’s doing but, no, we never have to wait on Pedro… I’m sure that he has worked out some way to do his other show and come back to do us.”
To be fair, Mando’s a pretty perfect character to allow for flexible filming. Given that his whole deal is keeping his helmet on and never being seen, it’s simple enough from a production perspective to use a body double and then have Pascal provide a separate voiceover later. When asked if season 3 of The Mandalorian would give fans more “helmet off” scenes, Esposito said, “”I can’t speak to that. I know he’d love to be more off the helmet but his job is to be in the helmet. I mean, that’s the deal.”
So fans will just have to wait and see (or not see) Pascal’s face in the upcoming season. Luckily, we’ll have The Book of Boba Fett to hold us over starting this December.
