STILLWATER (IN THEATERS)

Matt Damon stars in an international thriller about a man trying to clear his daughter’s name in a murder case. Though some might be expecting another Taken, critics have been saying this is a much different kind of dramatic thrill-ride. The director of Oscar Best Picture Winner Spotlight is helming this one and though many have been pleased with its unique approach, it’s not going to be for everyone. That Hashtag Show’s own Hunter Bolding says “Matt Damon holds up a lengthy film that could have used some trimming.”

THE GREEN KNIGHT (IN THEATERS)

Speaking of another film that will not be for everyone, A24 is dropping David Lowery’s medieval fantasy The Green Knight in theaters this weekend. The wonderfully talented Dev Patel gets another chance at a leading role and critics are saying that he knocks this one out of the park. But, it is known that with A24 Films, the critics usually praise them and the audiences don’t end up particularly agreeing with their pundits. Time will tell what is in store for The Green Knight, but That Hashtag Show’s own Kurtis Smejkal says that “You owe it to yourself to watch this one!”

LORELEI (IN THEATERS & STREAMING ON VOD)

Lorelei is a blue-collar family drama all wrapped up in a fable. It comes from first-time feature director Sabrina Doyle, whose striking debut will capture many audiences hearts who are willing to give it their time. The film about a felon who returns home to his high school sweetheart who is now single with three kids and has to take them under his wing… is also garnering critical love with an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, at the time of writing. If you can handle a slow-burn with a bit of melodrama, Loreleis powerhouse performances and bravura storytelling will surely do the trick for you this weekend.

NEW RELEASE TV

OUTER BANKS: SEASON 2 (NETFLIX)

“The Pogues” are back in Netflix’s surprise teen soap opera/action-thriller Outer Banks. This season finds our group of friends on the run, and leaving North Carolina for the Bahamas. This dreamy beach-set, sun-soaked series with attractive young people will certainly not win over audiences who are not into this genre… but, if your in the mood for mindless fun, you cannot go wrong with Outer Banks. Look out for the show in the Streaming Platform’s Top 10 this weekend, because it will certainly be there.

CENTAURWORLD (NETFLIX)

Any and all fans of Cartoon Network’s Adventuretime, should come together and rejoice for Netflix’s new animated-musical fantasy series Centaurworld. This bizarre and off-kilter show will not be for everyone (as seems to be the theme this weekend…), but with its vast array of Broadway stars belting out ballads, to its fantastical dreamlike-setting with loveable characters and finally to its vividly colorful animation… Centaurworld definitely needs to be seen, to be believed.
