Scarlett Johansson demonstrates once more that Disney execs are actually scumbags. Especially with the way they are treating her over Black Widow.
On July 29, 2021; The Wall Street Journal reported that Scarlett Johansson has just filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Supreme Court against Disney. Why? Well, apparently it’s for breach of contract over Disney releasing Black Widow in both theaters and Disney+ simultaneously. The lawsuit claims that Johansson had an agreement with Disney for an exclusively theatrical release…and that her salary was based in large part on the film’s box office performance. Thus, Disney’s decision to release the film on Disney+ caused its theatrical performance to crash and cost Johansson over $50 million USD in projected losses. In fact, the lawsuit goes so far as to claim:
Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel.
As expected, Disney could not be immediately reached for comment. Smart of them, considering that there’s no good way to spin this treatment of Scarlett Johansson over Black Widow. But it also proves that they are still scumbags.
Scarlett Johansson: A New Hero for the Actors and Actresses?
The lawsuit filed by Scarlett Johansson only really shows that Disney has not changed in their scumbag ways. Definitely not since that Mulan debacle months ago. Only now, Disney have decided to screw over their star actors and actresses too. It’s one thing to screw over the little people. It’s another to screw over someone famous like Johansson. Hopefully, this lawsuit results in Disney paying a pretty hefty sum of money to Johansson. Maybe then, Disney might learn not to be scumbags. At least, for a little while.
Conclusion
Scarlett Johansson has just filed a lawsuit against Disney for a breach of contract over Black Widow. Their simultaneous release of this Marvel film in both theaters and Disney+ went against an agreement they had with Johansson, and cost her over $50 million USD in well-earned revenue. Hopefully, this lawsuit goes well for her, and thus goes very badly for Disney. Tune it later for more on this lawsuit as this story develops.
