More exciting news for Doctor Who fans!

During the series’ panel at Comic Con@Home this year, fans got both a series 13 teaser trailer and learned about a special casting announcement. Game of Thrones favorite Jacob Anderson will appear in the upcoming season.

Anderson, known for his role as the loyal soldier Grey Worm in GOT, will join series 13 as Vinder.

You can see Anderson discuss his role and excitement to join Doctor Who in the panel below around 12:40.

The panel included returning cast Jodie Whittaker (the Thirteenth Doctor) and Mandip Gill (Yasmin Khan), plus current showrunner Chris Chibnall. John Bishop, who plays new companion Dan in series 13 also attended.

“I’d written for him before in Broadchurch,” Chibnall said. “I was thinking about this character and he was the first name that came to mind. So I kind of wrote it for him, and then pitched it to him, begged him… He just has that humanity, that warmth, but he can also play an action hero. He makes you root for him and he breaks your heart.”

We don’t know much about Anderson’s character Vinder yet, but the cast did talk about spending a good amount of time with him. So he’ll definitely appear as a recurring character. And while we don’t have plot specifics yet, the BBC did reveal a first look at Anderson in costume.
