Comic-Con@Home gave us a fantastic panel about the upcoming Starz show, Heels. Coming from and written by Executive Producer Michael Waldron (LokiDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness); Heels is the story of two brothers in the cutthroat world of independent professional wrestling. It stars Stephen Amell as Jack Spade and Alexander Ludwig as his younger brother Ace Space.

It also stars Alison Luff as Staci Spade, Mary McCormack as Willie Day, Kelli Berglund as Crystal Tyler, Allen Maldonado as Rooster Robbins, James Harrison as Apocalypse, and Chris Bauer as Wild Bill Hancock. This is looking like a show for wrestling fanatics and anyone who loves some good drama. Heels premieres on Starz Sunday, August 15th.

“Heels” is a story about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.

The Panel For Heels

The panel featured the stars and creative team behind Heels. We got some details about the genesis of the idea and why it’s set in a small-town wrestling promotion as opposed to WWE or AEW. It was interesting to see the different stars of the show talk about their experiences with pro wrestling before the show and after. Some, like Stephen Amell, have actual pro wrestling matches under their belt. Others like Mary McCormack, weren’t fans, but became fans because of the show.

Overall, the panel was a refreshing look at how the show will turn out. It looks like a great drama that captures the feeling of pro wrestling like how GLOW did.

Heels premieres on Starz Sunday, August 15th. Check out the sneak peek clip that debuted during SDCC below.
