If you like your media a little (or a lot) weird, Netflix is serving up a new limited series right up your alley.
It’s called Brand New Cherry Flavor, and it promises to send you tumbling down “a hallucinatory rabbit hole of sex, magic, revenge – and kittens.”
Intrigued? Confused? Either way, you probably want to know more. Check out the teaser below for your first glimpse at the series.
The teaser definitely serves up stylized strangeness in a compelling way. But the plot specifics might prove hard to pin down from a single watch. So, here’s the official synopsis for Brand New Cherry Flavor from Netflix:
Lisa N. Nova (Rosa Salazar) comes to LA dead set on directing her first movie. But when she trusts the wrong person and gets stabbed in the back, everything goes sideways and a dream project turns into a nightmare. This particular nightmare has zombies, hit men, supernatural kittens, and a mysterious tattoo artist who likes to put curses on people. And Lisa’s going to have to figure out some secrets from her own past in order to get out alive.
In addition to Salazar, the series stars Catherine Keener, Eric Lange, Jeff Ward, and Manny Jacinto. It also comes from some Channel Zero alums, Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion, so you can expect things to venture into the creepy. Anosca and Zion serve as executive producers, showrunners, and writers.
Brand New Cherry Flavor will include eight 60-minute episodes. It nabs an appropriately creepy release date: Friday, August 13 on Netflix.
So, does Brand New Cherry Flavor look like your brand of weird? I’m getting some Twin Peaks-style vibes, and I’m definitely into it. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
