Blade might not be in the “here and now” scheme for Phase Four of the MCU, but they’ve found a director. According to Deadline, Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) is the director for the upcoming Marvel film. Mahershala Ali has already been cast as the title character with a script from Stacy Osei-Kuffour. According to the article, Marvel has met with dozens of candidates going back to 2020. Tariq hasn’t officially signed on, but according to Deadline, the talks are ongoing.
Tariq joins Ryan Coogler, Chloe Zhao, and Nia DaCosta as the only POC to direct Marvel films. Kevin Feige and Marvel have made it a mission to diversify their filmmaking talent across the board. We’ll have to see when Blade releases in theaters. It doesn’t have a release window.
The character of Blade has long gestated in the Marvel universe. The original films starring Wesley Snipes saved Marvel from financial ruin in the movie sphere. So we have that to thank for all the wonderful MCU content we have today.
So, what do you think of this hire by Marvel for Blade? Are you excited to see the vampire hunter return to movies?
