Living under a rock? Iron Maiden premiered their first new music in over 6 years yesterday. The band released “The Writing On The Wall” after weeks of teasing an announcement for July 15th. What we got was an emotionally charged music video for a new single.
The apocalyptic themed video is filled with Easter Eggs from the band’s history, including various versions of Eddie throughout time. It premiered at 10:00am PT and 24 hours later, Iron Maiden fans have watched it 1.8 million times and counting. I’m not sure what the record for a 24 hour period is for the band, but this has to be a record.
The beautifully animated video is a high point for the band and their career. We might not have a new album announcement, but this new track is enough to satiate fans for now. Iron Maiden still has to finish out their postponed dates for The Legacy of the Beast Tour in 2022. This new single surely means a new album is on the way.
Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith wrote “The Writing On The Wall” and the video was directed by Nicos Livesey. For a band in their fifth decade of existence, Iron Maiden are still alive and kicking.
it’s a great time to be a Maiden fan and a metal fan in general.
