Mike Flanagan has already developed numerous original shows for Netflix like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. The horror auteur also has upcoming series’ Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club coming soon to the streaming giant as well. THR reports that Flanagan has now signed up to develop another new series, Something is Killing the Children, based upon the Boom! Studios comic of the same name.

Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy will be writing the script for the pilot together and will also be executive producing the show through their company Intrepid Pictures. If Something is Killing the Children is picked up by Netflix, Macy will also act as showrunner. The comic book series has been a huge hit for Boom! Studios, selling over 1.2 million copies and has won numerous awards as well.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THIS SERIES?

We still do not know what the official logline for the series will be. But, this is what the first story arc of the comics was all about:

a town plagued by monsters that feast on children, with one teen survivor telling tales that no adult believes. Into this scenario enters a mysterious young woman named Erica Slaughter. The woman, who occasionally converses with her stuffed animal, isn’t there to mince words but rather to mince monsters.

I will watch anything that Flanagan is behind. The genre director has slowly become one of the most exciting voices in horror, with his work on the Netflix series’ previously mentioned as well as Gerald’s Game, Oculus and Doctor Sleep. According to THR, the author of the comic book, James Tynion IV’s writing incorporates flashes of gripping horror against drama infused by grief, alienation, family dynamics and LGBTQ themes. This sounds right up Flanagan’s alley and also something that will be truly terrifying and captivating. I really hope that Netflix picks this one up!

What are your thoughts on Something is Killing the Children? Has anyone read the comics, this will be based on?
