Sandra Oh stars in the upcoming Netflix comedy series The Chair, in which she plays the newly appointed Chair of the English department at Pembroke University.
Netflix hasn’t released a ton of details about what to expect from the six-episode series. But we’ve finally got our first real look today!
Check out the sneak peek clip below for your first look at Oh in The Chair:
As someone who’s been keeping an eye out for more info on this series, when I first clicked the video, I was disappointed. Only 56 seconds?? That hardly seems like enough to give a good impression of a show!
I was wrong.
56 seconds is enough time for Oh’s Professor Ji-Yoon Kim to unveil a truly iconic desk nameplate AND fall out of a chair spectacularly. And just like that, I really do feel like I get the vibe of The Chair. (And yes, I am 100% on board.)
The Chair will showcase the unique challenges Dr. Kim faces as the first woman to chair the English department at Pembroke, and as one of the few staff members of color at the university.
In addition to Oh, the series stars Jay Duplass as Professor Bill Dobson; Holland Taylor as Professor Joan Hambling; Bob Balaban as Professor Elliot Rentz; Nana Mensah as Professor Yaz McKay; David Morse as Dean Paul Larson; and Everly Carganilla as Ju-Hee “Ju Ju” Kim. The series comes from EP/writer/showrunner Amanda Peet.
The six 30-minute episodes of The Chair premiere on Netflix August 20.
