It looks as if Disney has changed the name of an iconic ship. Known as Slave I, Slave 1, or Slave One since it was introduced into the Star Wars universe, Boba Fett’s ship will have a new name. Yes, you have read that right, it seems that the Slave 1 name will be no more. It will now be called Boba Fett’s Starship. This change was noticed very quickly by fans when LEGO officially revealed their new Boba Fett’s Starship set that is coming in August. Also, our friends over at the Boba Fett Fan Club dug into it more, and, yes it does seem like this is a done deal.
Slave I will now be Boba Fett’s Starship
A report from the Boba Fett Fan Club looks as if the Slave I name is done for good. This report talks about an interview with Jedi News, BrickSet, LEGO Star Wars Lead Designer Michael Lee Stockwell, and LEGO Star Wars Design Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen where they talked about the official name change.
Jens: Then, the next one, also from The Mandalorian, is Boba Fett’s Starship.
Michael: Yes, I built another. We’re not calling it Slave I anymore. This is Boba Fett’s Starship.
James: OK, why are we dropping the Slave I name?
Jens: Everybody is. It’s probably not something which has been announced publicly but it is just something that Disney doesn’t want to use anymore.
Why The Name Change
While no official reason has been given yet, the name Slave I, more than likely it was replaced to help stay clear of controversy in the future. With Boba Fett’s popularity growing once again thanks to The Mandalorian and the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett more fans will be seeing and buying Fett merchandise and by dropping the Slave I name makes it more equitable. This was the same thing that happened with Slave Leia.

More stupid, pointless virtue signaling. But what else should we expect from the woke morons at Disney?
Dumb, idiotic, small details such as changing the name of a ship grow into large, costly problems when the opinions and wishes of the fans, who are the financial supporters are ignored.
Typical Disney. They rewrite history constantly. Dictatorships are fond of rewriting history, hating free speech and afraid of the intelligence of their viewers.
If you take away something from a story you are obliged to put something back that has color. Like the Wolf for the name of his starship. Not just say Boba Fett’s starship that just says I don’t have vision. How lame with all the talent that comes out of Disney you would think they could come up with a name the was cool and didn’t offend
While I consider myself a fairly liberal individual who supports the Me Too and BLM movements, the ever creeping cancel culture does seem to be taking things a bit far in many respects and this is just another example. It’s like people have forgotten about “context” and how words can mean many different things.
Agreed. It’s appealing to the lowest common denominator who do not understand context.
Seriously, fuck this woke bullshit. Stop rewriting history and just fucking let people enjoy things. What did Boba Fett ever do to you!!
Stupid.
So what are we gonna call Slave Leia?
Sex Prisoner Leia?
Pleasure Girl Leia?
The first Kenner toy of the ship was advertised as Slave 1 in 1981 on the TV. The previous iteration in LEGO that was retired in November was called Slave 1. It’s not some obscure name that only the most hard core and nerdy of Star Wars know. It’s probably the second most well known name for a Star Wars ship after The Millennium Falcon. Star Wars fans are getting really tired of Disney’s mishandling of the IP.
