Smallville fans, we might have some exciting news for you. Tom Welling in a Cameo video from the Tweet below, spilled the news about an animated show based on the long-running Superman show. Here’s what Welling had to say:

Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life and use as many of the original cast members as possible. Don’t tell anybody, though. It’s a secret. We’re still working on it.

Smallville ran for an incredible ten seasons from 2001-2011. The show focused mainly on the early life of Superman, but also gave us looks at many DC mainstays. An animated series could be a way to get around the fact that a lot of the cast are now older, and still keep the same vibe of the original show. We did end up getting a Smallville season 11 in the form of a comic book from DC. It centered around the early life of Superman after the final shot of the show.

There’s also the question of where the character goes following the DCTV event, Crisis on Infinite Earths. For now, this is all the information we have surrounding the series.

So, would you want to see a Smallville animated series?
