Director Steven Caple Jr., producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, and stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback gave us the title for the upcoming Transformers film: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Yes, it’s an adaptation of Beast Wars. But this isn’t just another sequel to the long-running toy franchise. It’s set between Bumblebee and Michael Bay’s films. Peter Cullen is back as Optimus Prime alongside Bumblebee.
Here’s the logline for the film:
Returning to the action and spectacle that first captured moviegoers around the world 14 years ago with the original Transformers, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons.
Our last film in the series was the excellent Bumblebee, which gave us a smaller scale story in the series. This upcoming film, however, looks to be absolutely massive. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts releases in theaters, June 24th, 2022. Bumblebee is also getting back his classic shell of a Camaro. Optimus Prime will have his G1 design as well.
Bonaventura had this to say about the upcoming film:
We wanted to give the audience a lot of new. We have exhausted I would say the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. How do we find a new set of villains and priorities, saving the world is left to the Autobots and in this case the Maximals. Part of the new news, if you’ve seen the other movies, you’re going to see villains you’ve never seen before and a lot of elements we’ve never done before.
