Imagine you spend your entire life struggling to connect to others, only to find one person who truly understands you.
And then imagine that one person gets murdered.
You’re either gonna cry about it…or you’re gonna get revenge. And if you’re Lindy (Kate Beckinsale), a woman with a neurological disorder that leads you to experience sporadic, rage-filled impulses… Well, the choice seems pretty clear.
Here’s the official synopsis of Jolt, a new feature coming to Amazon Prime Video this summer:
Lindy is a beautiful, sardonically-funny woman with a painful secret. Due to a lifelong, rare neurological disorder, she experiences sporadic rage-filled, murderous impulses that can only be stopped when she shocks herself with a special electrode device. Unable to find love and connection in a world that fears her bizarre condition, she finally trusts a man long enough to fall in love, only to find him murdered the next day. Heartbroken and enraged, she embarks on a revenge-filled mission to find his killer… while also being pursued by the police as the crime’s prime suspect.
The film comes from writer Scott Wascha and director Tanya Wexler. In addition to Beckinsale in the lead role, the film stars Bobby Cannavale, Jai Courtney, Laverne Cox, David Bradley, and Ori Pfeffer, with Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci.
“Lindy is a very flawed character, but also you root for her, because there is a wish-fulfillment side to the fact that she’s got no inhibitions about her anger,” Beckinsale told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s a small scene where some guy is like, ‘Cheer up, love,’ and she just pushes his face into a wall. We’ve all had that urge! Lindy’s just a great character. I love the mix of comedy and action and female rage. It seemed very timely.”
No trailer yet, but you can check out stills from the film below.
So, will you tune in for Lindy’s impulsive quest for vengeance? You won’t have too long to wait to see how it all plays out.
Jolt debuts on Prime Video July 23.
