Funimation officially announces that Josee, the Tiger, and the Fish will be coming to select US and Canadian theaters on July 12, 2021 to July 14, 2021. This anime film will be in both English dub and Japanese audio with English subtitles, so you can choose which one you want to experience. Tickets will be on sale starting on June 18, 2021. Details on where and how exactly you can get these tickets will come later.
Josee, the Tiger, and the Fish: Details
Similar to Your Name, this will be a romantic comedy drama anime film based on the Japanese short story of the same name by Seiko Tanabe. Unlike Your Name though, this anime film appears to have no supernatural elements to it. Instead, the story is about a young man and scuba diver who becomes the caretaker of a young wheelchair-bound woman to get some money. However, it looks like the two of them end up becoming much more than just caretaker and patient. Considering that this film got nominated for “Best Animation” in the 75th Mainichi Film Awards and “Animation of the Year” for the 44th Japan Academy Film Prize, you know you’re in for a good one. The full synopsis is as follows:
Tsuneo, an ordinary college student and avid diver, unexpectedly becomes the caretaker of a wheelchair-bound young woman in order to raise money for this dream to go diving in Mexico. This young woman, who calls herself Josee after her favorite book character, is sullen and demanding, but as Tsuneo helps Josee interact with the outside world and learns more about Josee’s unique perspective, their feelings grow into love. The two begin to support each other in ways beyond just romance.
