Amazon Studios brings us The Tomorrow War. The new action film brings a future conflict to the present day. In the film, people come from the future to warn us about a threat to humanity. So they draft people from the present to go and fight in the future. It’s a fairly simple plot that’s likely going to get more convoluted and confusing as the movie progresses. It stars Chris Pratt, Betty Gilpin, J.K. Simmons, Yvonne Strahovski, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Matthews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers. The official synopsis goes like this:
In The Tomorrow War, the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.
Chris McKay directs and Zach Dean wrote the screenplay. You can catch The Tomorrow War on Amazon Prime Video this July 2nd. So if you’re going to stay inside and beat the heat, you can at least get a blockbuster movie with it.
