You know how Attack on Titan is a dark fantasy action thriller series, right? Well, guess what the cover art for the final volume looks like.

Guess it’s time to expect the unexpected now.

Kodansha and Attack on Titan‘s mangaka, Hajime Isayama, have decided to unveil the regular cover art for Volume 34, the final volume, of the manga. This art comes to us courtesy of Manga Mogura RE on Twitter. The cover art is…definitely not what we expected. Instead of the usual thing with action and Titans, we see something a lot more peaceful. Very peaceful. Involving little kids to boot.

Attack on Titan: Knocking on Heaven’s Door?

Attack on Titan Vol. 34 standard cover art.
Ah, so peaceful after all the human-eating giants.

The front cover of the final volume of Attack on Titan on the left shows our main characters Eren, Mikasa, and Armin as children. Happy children to boot, especially little Armin, who’s running to try and keep up with Mikasa as she strolls towards Eren, who’s happily standing next to a tree. Why? Well…

On the back cover of the final volume of Attack on Titan on the right, we see the rest of the gang in the Survey Corps. As expected, all of them are also children. All of them look happy as clams, and are all rushing towards our trio of main characters like they’re all hanging out after class. Or possibly just before class. The background shows the sun right on the horizon, but it’s impossible to tell whether it’s sunset or sunrise. The big thing is though, is that there are no Titans. Anywhere. At all. Because of that, the whole scene seems pretty…heavenly. Not sure if this is a good thing for Attack on Titan, or bad. Guess we’ll just have to see when Volume 34 comes out, and we finally see how the story of the Survey Corps ends.

Conclusion

Kodansha and Hajime Isayama have revealed the regular cover art for the 34th and final volume of the Attack on Titan manga. The cover art shows all the main characters as children, enjoying a heavenly scene. To me, this seems a bit ominous considering what we know of the dark fantasy action-thriller setting. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens when the final volume comes out in English on October 19, 2021.
