Get ready horror fans, Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Dr. Strange) is coming back to the genre. His newest film, The Black Phone starring Ethan Hawke and James Ransone (Sinister, It: Chapter Two) goes like this:

“Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

Derrickson and Robert Cargill wrote the script based on a Joe Hill short story.

If Derrickson’s previous filmography is any indication, this one should be a horrific ride. Blumhouse and Universal are producing the film. The cast also includes Jeremy Davies, Mason Thames, and Madeleine McGraw.

The film releases in theaters January 28th, 2022.
