Award-winning actress Helen McCrory has died.
McCrory’s husband, actor Damian Lewis, announced her passing on Twitter this morning. Lewis said she died peacefully in her home following a battle with cancer. She was 52.
The image text reads, “I’m heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family. She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.”
McCrory was an accomplished actress with a number of notable roles across stage and screen. She starred as Aunt Polly in the BBC drama Peaky Blinders, and recently voiced Lord Asriel’s daemon Stelmaria in His Dark Materials. She also appeared in Penny Dreadful and Fearless.
McCrory was Narcissa Malfoy in Harry Potter and Tony Blair’s wife Cherie in The Queen. She also featured in Hugo, the Bond flick Skyfall, and more.
She began her acting career on stage in plays like Medea and The Deep Blue Sea. Just six weeks ago, she appeared on British TV to discuss her charity work.
