April is upon us, and with it comes big things for Star Wars. Remember, Disney and Lucasfilm announced the main cast of the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series late last month. As part of the announcement, we learned that the show will start filming, well, now. Production is well underway, and at least one set appears to be nearly complete. We know this thanks to a leaked Kenobi set video that gives us a first look at the Tatooine of Obi-Wan’s time of exile.

Twitter user “Lauren” (@ewanskenobii) posted what appears to be a drive-through video of the Tatooine set. (Kudos for appropriately setting the video to the music of the cantina band from the original Star Wars.) In the video we get glimpses of the not-quite-complete main street of a Tatooine town. Beyond that, though, the Kenobi set video doesn’t offer much. Given the franchise’s past history on the planet, the likelihood is that this is either Mos Eisley or Mos Espa. Assuming that this is, in fact, the actual Kenobi set.
Kenobi Set video gives first glimpse into the series’ production
If we had to guess we’d say that what we’re seeing is likely authentic. After all, Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived on Tatooine at the end of Revenge of the Sith. By all accounts, he remained there until the events of the A New Hope when he reunites with a then-teenage Luke Skywalker. The Kenobi set video has all the hallmarks of the dessert planet we’ve come to know and love…. But it doesn’t offer any real insight in to the series.
The Kenobi set video does show us one thing, however. As with The Mandalorian before it, and from what we’ve seen in set photos for Andor, Disney continues to spare no expense in creating an authentic Star Wars environment. With Deborah Chow directing, we are certainly in for a treat.
