The rise of the true crime genre concurrent with the rise of the internet has led to countless online sleuths investigating cold cases. And while it sure would be satisfying to find the answer that’s baffled police for decades, these cases don’t usually come with millions in reward money.
But this is no ordinary case.
This Is a Robbery is a new four-part Netflix documentary detailing the biggest art heist in history. Over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in 1990, legendary works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and others worth over half a billion dollars today were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. What followed? A series of leads, lucky breaks, speculation, and dead ends.
And yes, a $10 million reward for answers.

Netflix has been killing it with true crime lately. I expect This Is a Robbery to be just as fascinating as some of their other recent projects. I mean, it’s a true crime mystery AND a heist story. What’s not to love? The trailer looks like the series will bring both intrigue and humor to keep us in our seats. (I mean, come on. Someone robbed a museum in Boston on St. Patrick’s Day? Yeah, they knew everyone would be distracted.)
So, will you dive into the world’s biggest art heist for fun? Or set your investigative sights on that $10 million reward? Either way, I bet you’ll be watching. I know I will be.
This Is A Robbery hits Netflix April 7.
