Netflix seems to be looking for some serious talent for their upcoming animated series Trese. How else do you explain Liza Soberano and Shay Mitchell voicing the main character in their respective countries?

Netflix has revealed that they’ve hired two actresses to voice the titular Alexandra Trese in their animated adaptation of the Filipino comic series of the same name. Fittingly, both actresses have Filipino origins. Filipina-American actress Liza Soberano (My Ex and WhysAlone/Together) will voice the main character in the Filipino language version of the series.

“It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese. I’m a huge fan of Budjette and KaJO’s award-winning Trese comics. Maraming salamat! Excited nako!” – Liza Soberano

Meanwhile, Filipina-Canadian actress Shay Mitchell (YOUPretty Little Liars) will voice Trese in the English language version of the series. She will almost certainly be the voice we’ll hear in the US. Unless, you know, you decide to watch the Filipino version. In which case, you’ll get to hear both actresses.

“I’m so excited to be a part of a unique and amazing project like Trese, and to voice a character as brilliant as Alexandra Trese. Philippine folklore is rich and fascinating, and I am thrilled to be a part of the team bringing this story to life.” – Shay Mitchell

Trese: What Is It And Why Should I Care?

Hmm, bloody hell?

So what is Trese about? Well, as I stated before, it’s Netflix’s animated adaptation of the award-winning comic book of the same name by writer Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. The executive producer is Jay Oliva (Wonder WomanThe Legend of Korra), and the actual producers are Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson of BASE Entertainment. The original comic is a horror/crime series featuring black and white artwork for the panels. Just like a manga really.

Getting manga flashbacks here.

Admittedly, I have never read Trese. However, based on the basic premise, it seems to basically be a cross between Supernatural and Ghost in the Shell. Minus the sci-fi/cyberpunk elements, of course. Basically, if Motoko Kusanagi lived in a supernatural/horror world instead of a cyberpunk one. All in all, this sounds like it could be a very interesting series to pay attention to. At least, if you have a Netflix account.

Conclusion

Netflix managed to get two star actresses to voice Alexandra Trese in Trese. Liza Soberano will voice her in the Filipino language version, and Shay Mitchell will voice her in the English language version. If you like supernatural horror and crime stories, check out this upcoming new animated/anime series on Netflix sometime in 2021.
