Professor Hulk is here to help deliver some scoops and information on the film and TV industry. Today we’re going to be talking about some Captain Marvel 2 casting news. No doubt many people this past week or so saw some leaked casting information for the film. Specifically, Marvel Studios is looking to cast a few key roles…. Most of these aren’t overly exciting, or are castings for which we’ve already gotten confirmation. The one that most of fandom is focusing on, however is the Supporting Male Role, in the 20-30 age range.
The studio is seeking a “Timothy Chalamet or Michael B. Jordan” type for the role. Now, before you get too excited, these are examples of the type of actor the studio is seeking, It’s doubtful that Chalamet would take this role. (Although, don’t get me wrong, that would be great!) Plus, Jordan already appeared in the MCU as Killmonger in Black Panther. So who is this Captain Marvel 2 character going to be?
Captain Marvel 2 Finds Its Villain In Michael Korvac
We’ve learned from several sources that Captain Marvel 2 would feature multiple villains. The story would introduce one early on in the movie, the character Zawe Aston will portray. The other will be a supporting character who is revealed to be a villain in the third act. (Think similarly to how the Skrulls were the ‘villain’ in Captain Marvel. However, we later discover that the Kree, and in particular, Yon-Rogg, were the true villains.)
So this male role is that character, the one we’ll learn to be the film’s true villain. He’s also the character that appears in the original script from Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, and Nicole Perlman. (Marvel later brought in Marvel brought in WandaVision’s Megan McDonnell for a re-write.) We can confirm from our sources that the original script revealed that character to be none other than Michael Korvac.
So Who Is Michael Korvac?
The Captain Marvel 2 villain has a long and complicated comic book history. He started out as an ordinary human until an alien race turned him into a powerful cyborg. His powers include energy projection, matter alteration, and even manipulation of time and space. Thus, he makes the perfect villain for Carol Danvers.
Granted, we don’t know exactly how much of the original script made its way through to the new one. Notwithstanding, it did feature Monica Rambeau. (She obviously survived the re-write and now features prominently in WandaVision, the bridge to the MCU’s Phase 4.) If Monica survived the re-write, it’s safe to assume Korvac did too. Korvac is an Avengers-level threat. Introducing him in Captain Marvel 2 is the perfect vehicle with which to set him up for future stories.
Chalamet and Jordan are both very emotive actors, actors who can portray characters for whom you can sympathize. I mean, we all sympathized with Killmonger even though we knew he was the villain! It’s no wonder the studio is seeking an actor of their type. Those are characteristics that, not uncoincidentally, Michael Korvac just happens to embody.
Of course it’s entirely possible that Marvel is taking the re-written script in in a different direction. Still, we can say with certainty that some elements live on in this new script. Monica Rambeau, for one. Micahel Korvac is another. You heard it here first.
Micahel Korvac is not important in the comic and boring. Hope this is not true.
So are you, don’t sell yourself short.
