In this final weeks of Future State, we get the conclusion of Lex Luthor vs the Man of Steel in Superman Vs Imperious Lex 2. The world must have breathed a sigh of relief when Lex Luthor left Earth. Lex controls his own planet now, called Lexor. He was happy. He and his robots pillaged other planets for resources and Lex controlled the media and what the populace knew. They thought what he told them to think. All should be good right? Well, until HE showed up.
Superman trashes Lex’s robots because they attacked other planets, but when he sees the brainwashing he can’t help but intervene. Lex wants to join the United Planets, so Superman backs his bid.
Of course this is all a plot to deceive the Planets to Lex’s ends, which Lois uncovers when she travels to Lexor. Then her techs find a rare crystal the rest of the galaxy needs for power. Lex pulls out of the partnership, seeing endless profits ahead. Except Superman finds the crystal, synthesizes it and supplies it to the galaxy, leaving Lex on a planet with no more possibilities.
Superman Vs Imperious Lex 2
That’s basically the issue. The great Lex Luthor vs one of the great superheroes of all time, and we get a political scam of I need you, I don’t need you, I need you, I don’t need you. This story line wasn’t bad, but it also failed to deliver anything special. Lex came across as a con man more than a genius, and Superman had no troubles defeating him and his plans.
The one nice story thread throughout this whole arc had to do with Lex and the Lexors. There is a nice undercurrent of what a populace would be like when the ruler controls every source of media and source of information, but that discussion might be better had on a political page.
