The DC Comics Future State event comes to an end at the end of the month. Many old heroes will assume their old roles, but what about the newbies? What about the new characters that showed up in Future State? Will any survive the event and continue on in the new DC world? At least one will. DC announced that Yara Flor lands her own title come May with Wonder Girl 1.
Of all the new characters coming from Future State, Yara Flor easily stands out as the top new hero in the DC universe. Her young, cocky, energetic nature plays well against her sass and sarcasm. She prefers the headstrong, unorthodox approach which may land her in more trouble than other heroes, but she excels at pushing through them. Yara Flor brings a breath of fresh air to the DCU.
DC Comics released a synopsis of her title, and it sounds like her title will jump back to her roots, hence Wonder Girl 1 not Wonder Woman 1. Here’s how the release reads:
Raised in the far-off land of Boise, Idaho, Yara has always felt something has been missing from her life—and now she is headed to Brazil to find it. Little does she know her arrival will set off a series of events that will change the world of Wonder Woman forever.
DC Comics press release
Her return has been prophesied, and with that prophesy comes the undivided attention of benevolent gods from pantheons beyond. Danger lurks around every corner—but is this young hero ready for her journey?
Yara Flor Lands Title – Who Is Yara Flor?
In many ways this sound like a Percy Jackson/Harry Potter style title. Yara starts out a normal girl, but leaves to find out who she truly is. Will Diana Prince show up in this title? What other heroes will cross into her title? No matter who shows up, look for Yara Flor to carve a name for herself as she discovers her true powers.
I love when Yara pops up in the Future State titles. Her sass and wit add to any scene, and quite honestly it’s something the DCU could use. What have you thought of Yara Flor’s Future State appearances, and are you happy she’s getting her own title in May?
