Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella heading to streaming? It’s more than possible. Disney+ is making this a sure thing.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella boasts an incredible cast that frankly blows other versions of Cinderella out of the water. Brandy stars in the title role, with Whitney Houston appearing as her Fairy Godmother. Other leads include Whoopi Goldberg, Victor Garber, Bernadette Peters, Natalie Desselle Reid, Paolo Montalban, Veanne Cox, and Jason Alexander.
The legendary production originally aired in 1997 during ABC’s “The Wonderful World of Disney” slot. Over 60 million people tuned in, and the movie musical became an instant fan favorite, praised for its diverse cast and impressive music.
This version of Cinderella features original songs from the duo Rodgers & Hammerstein, including “Impossible,” “In My Own Little Corner,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” “A Lovely Night,” “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?” and more.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella earned plenty of praise from critics as well as viewers, nabbing positive reviews as well as 7 Emmy nominations.
Now, over two decades since it aired on TV, the film finally heads to streaming. You can watch Cinderella at the stroke of midnight on Friday, February 12 exclusively on Disney+.
The movie will join Disney+’s “Celebrate Black Stories” collection alongside Soul, Black Panther, Hidden Figures, and more.
