It appears that the upcoming game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga wants to have every Star Wars characters appear in it. From the looks of it, they’ve succeeded. Or at least, they’re very close to it.
Dawn McDiarmid, lead hub designer for TT Games: developer of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, recently went on record in Comic Book to talk about the game. Specifically, about the sheer number of characters it’ll have. According to McDiarmid, they want to pack in roughly 800 unique characters into the game. 500 of those will be non-player characters, so you can “only” play about 300 of them.
McDiarmid also added that in addition to old characters from the main Star Wars films, they’ll also be adding in some new characters for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. In this talk, McDiarmid also teased an “in-depth quest system which features not only more elaborate and ridiculous quest chains, but a whole new tracking system on your datapad with which to engage with the quests, and the ability to do multiple quests simultaneously.”.
Lastly, McDiarmid added that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be missing certain features on the PS5, like haptic feedback, ray-tracing, and 3D audio. The core game is still intact though, so your overall experience will be only minimally affected. We also have no information about if the Xbox Series S/X version is also missing these features. Stay tuned in for more later.
The Skywalker Saga: All the LEGO Star Wars You Could Ever Want
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga basically seeks to pack the entirety of all nine main Star Wars films into one game. So it does make sense that there’d be so many characters in it. Possibly the only surprise is that there aren’t more.
Funnily enough, that trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga also suggests that we’ll see events and characters from outside the main films. We see Luke Skywalker in his Return of the Jedi outfit drink out of a carton of blue milk, leaving a blue milk mustachio in the process. If you pause the video just right, you can even see the bantha on the carton. Why is this important, you might ask? Well, the only place where we see Luke drinking blue milk out of a carton like that is in The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special.
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is hardly a mainline Star Wars film. Thus, that carton’s appearance suggests that we’ll see things from other Star Wars media in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Does this mean that we’ll see things from The Mandalorian, Clone Wars, Rebels, and other great Star Wars TV series? Maybe. We’ll just have to see whenever the game comes out this year.
Conclusion
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be the biggest Star Wars game yet whenever it comes out sometime in Spring 2021. With about 800 different Star Wars characters, and the ability to play about 300 of them, you can expect to have as much Star Wars as you ever want. At the very least, you can expect some 300 memes to pop up when people notice this.
