Magic and Boom! Comics are returning to comic book stores! Both companies have announced that they’re bringing out a new line of comics later this year. The first issues are arriving April 2021. The series, which marks Boom!’s debut for Magic, is simply titled, Magic. Jed MacKay and Ig Guara are taking readers from the planes of Ravnica to Zendikar and everywhere in between. The first issue revolves around the Ravnican guildmasters, Kaya, Vraska, and Ral Zarek. They’re caught up in an assassination attempt and have to put their differences aside to figure out the plot. Their adventures take them to the plane of Zendikar where they face off with one of Magic’s oldest foes.
MacKay had this to say about the opportunity:
Twenty-five years ago when I was digging through the commons and uncommons bin to build my first deck, I would never have thought that one day I would be handed the reins to the Magic: The Gathering comic, but here we are! I’m extremely psyched to be digging into the world of MAGIC and all that entails, and can’t wait for all of you to see what we’ve been cooking up for you!
The older Magic comics were done by IDW from 2011 to 2018. So this move to Boom! Comics marks a different tone for Magic: The Gathering comics. Magic: The Gathering is in for a huge year in 2021 and these comics from Boom! are just the beginning!
