Netflix’s series highlighting the life of Selena Quintanilla will finish up this May.
Selena: The Series highlights the Queen of Tejano Music’s meteoric rise to fame. The second and final part of the series premieres May 14.
The first part rekindled love for Selena around the world. Following the premiere of Selena: The Series in December 2020, it took the #1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list in the US. The series broke the Top 10 in 23 total countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. In Mexico, the love for Selena stretched on for nearly a month; it stayed in the Top 10 for 26 consecutive days.
Overall, 25 million households around the world tuned in for the first part of the series. And unsurprisingly, it drew people back to Selena’s music, too. The artist’s streams on Spotify increased 260% after the Netflix premiere, reaching 5 million monthly listeners.
Want to know more about Selena? Here’s the official series description from Netflix:
Before she became the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla was a young girl from Texas with big dreams and an even bigger voice. The two-part coming-of-age drama Selena: The Series explores the once-in-a-generation performer’s journey as a young artist, from singing small gigs in Corpus Christi with her family to becoming one of the most successful Latin artists of all time — and the years of grit and sacrifice the Quintanilla family navigated together before Selena’s meteoric rise to fame.
