2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. The Pokémon Company had previously announced that this year would be a year of special celebrations in honor of that anniversary. And as it turns out, they’re starting to deliver on that promise. Beginning with this adorable sizzle video:
Nintendo Life recently showed off that frankly adorable teaser trailer above. The whole trailer was basically a trip through the history of the Pokémon franchise. Starting with the original Pokémon Red/Blue games, we take a journey through Pokémon cards, clips from the Pokémon anime, etc.. All the while, we’re accompanied by adorable plushies of various Pokémon, mostly from the original Kanto region. Until finally, we see Pikachu rolling by on a skateboard past a glowing sign marked “Katy Perry & Pokemon”, and hit a disco ball which rolls into an old-fashioned record player. Said record player then belts out a single word:
Electric!
Katy Perry
Frankly, the whole trailer was basically a Pokémon-themed Rube Goldberg machine. However, it’s one that I’d happily rewatch a couple of times.
Pokémon Trainer Katy Perry would like to battle!
Other than that brief teaser about Katy Perry’s new song, there’s more to Pokemon’s 25th anniversary. The Pokemon Company actually came out and said about that song snippet:
This one goes out to everyone who started out catching Pokemon…but ended up catching feelings instead.
We don’t have any information on when exactly Katy Perry will debut her new Pokémon song. My guess is “soon”.
Aside from that though, The Pokemon Company also announces that they’ll be releasing special collectibles for their 25th Anniversary. One of these collectibles is a very cool skateboard by Bear Walker. Said skateboard features a pokeball grip pattern, and an adorable image of Pikachu in wood on it.
The Pokemon Company will likely announce more of these over 2021. Tune in later for more goodies.
Conclusion
Pokémon is kicking off its 25th anniversary in 2021 with an adorable Rube Goldberg machine, as well as teasing Katy Perry’s contribution to the celebrations. We don’t know exactly when she’ll release her new electrifying song, but it’ll probably be soon. Tune in later when we actually get to hear it.
