Unfortunately, the COVID-19 film delays that plagued 2020 are not yet a thing of our past. Sony Pictures just announced Jared Leto’s Morbius will be delayed.
The thriller already suffered a number of delays thanks to the pandemic. Previously scheduled for theatrical release this March, Morbius moves to a new fall release. It now premieres October 8.
Morbius is a superhero film based on the Marvel comics character. It follows a biochemist who becomes a vampire after attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease. Leto portrays Michael Morbius, the title character. Other stars include Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson.
Morbius is a notorious Spider-Man villain. The upcoming movie is part of Sony’s effort to create its own series of interconnected comic book films. The 2018 flick Venom starring Tom Hardy helped kick off Sony’s plans. A sequel to Venom is currently planned for a June 2021 release. (Although once again, I think we can expect a lot more film delays as COVID continues to plague 2021.)
So, are you excited to see Leto as Morbius? Or disappointed about the most recent theatrical release delay? Let us know in the comments.
