A new chapter of Sex and the City is coming to HBO Max. But the foursome of famous friends will be down to a trio.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will return for a new series And Just Like That… They’ll reprise their roles as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte respectively as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.
Notably absent from the lineup? Kim Cattrall’s Samantha. Cattrall previously stated she had no interest in returning for a third Sex and the City film.
Combine this with her apparently tumultuous relationship with co-star Parker, and it’s not exactly surprising she’s not taking part in And Just Like That…
Parker Addresses Cattrall’s Absence
Parker shared a teaser clip promoting the series on Instagram. Of course, this left fans asking about Cattrall’s absence.
When one user suggested Parker didn’t like Cattrall, she responded, “No. I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do.”
About And Just Like That…
HBO Max ordered the new series for 10 half-hour episodes. Michael Patrick King, executive producer for the original Sex and the City series and films, will produce this continuation as well. The stars Parker, Nixon, and Davis also hold EP credits.
“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max.
