Definitely a good news, bad news situation here. The good news? Thanks to Disney buying up Fox, Deadpool will officially join the MCU – and keep its R rating.
The bad news? We probably won’t see the film for a while.
During an interview with Collider, Kevin Feige confirmed Deadpool 3 is currently in the works.
“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now,” confirmed Feige. “Ryan’s overseeing a script right now.”
A few months ago, we learned Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin would write the script for Deadpool 3. So it looks like the project is already rolling.
However, Feige stressed that the project is in early development, and a lot of factors will keep us from seeing a new Deadpool movie in the near future. In fact, the Marvel president said Deadpool 3 would not film in 2021.
“It will not be [filming] this year,” Feige said. “Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
Given how many projects Marvel is currently working on, it’s not surprising that the next Deadpool movie won’t hit the big screen too soon. With Deadpool 3 not filming until at least 2022, we probably won’t actually see the film released until at least 2023. Hopefully, the extra time will give them the chance to make an awesome movie.
So, what do you think? Now that Deadpool will join up with the MCU, which Marvel hero do you most want to see him meet? Let us know in the comments.
