Good news for fans of A Discovery of Witches. You can stream the first season for free for a limited time.

The hit fantasy romance series is gearing up for its second season premiere. To help bring in new fans (and serve as a refresher for old ones), it will stream for free until January 18. You can watch on your choice of platforms; the series is streaming on Sundance Now, Shudder, and AMC+. (These platforms normally require a subscription, but you won’t need one to watch season 1 of A Discovery of Witches).

If you prefer a cable binge, you can also marathon the entire season on AMC on January 24. The TV event will include special behind-the-scenes content and interviews with Deborah Harkness. Harkness authored the bestselling book series the show is based on.

A Discovery of Witches, a UK production, airs on Sky overseas. After a widely successful premiere season on Sky and Sundance/Shudder streaming in the US, the series landed a distribution deal with AMC to reach even more American viewers.

“A Discovery of Witches was a runaway hit for Sundance Now and Shudder last year, driving record usage and subscriptions at a time when our streaming services were gaining momentum in a crowded and increasingly competitive market,” said Miguel Penella, president of SVOD for AMC Networks. “There has never been a single series that has had the impact of A Discovery of Witches across our streaming platforms.”

In A Discovery of Witches, Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer), a historian and reluctant witch, discovers a bewitched manuscript at Oxford. The book drags her back into the world of magic, and Diana finds herself caught in the middle of an ancient feud between witches, vampires, and demons. Despite this, she forms an alliance – and romance – with vampire Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode). Together, they set out to protect the book and unravel the mysteries hidden within – all while dodging threats from the magical world.

Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches premieres January 9. Season 1 is free to stream on Shudder, Sundance Now, and AMC+ through January 18.
