Ok Grishaverse fans. We’re FINALLY getting a first look at the Shadow & Bone series on Netflix.
Check out the trailer below.
It’s just a teaser, but if you’ve been looking forward to this one as much as I have, it’s still pretty exciting. Fans of the book series will surely recognize the importance of the magical stag that features prominently in the teaser.
Netflix’s upcoming Shadow & Bone is a YA fantasy series based on novels by Leigh Bardugo. The series actually combines two of Bardugo’s book series, the titular Shadow & Bone trilogy as well as the Six of Crows duology.
Set in a complex magical world, the Shadow & Bone books follow Alina, a girl who suddenly finds herself in possession of unimaginably strong magic powers like no one has seen before. As the world around her goes to war, Alina has to choose a side – but when it comes to magic and power, nothing is straightforward.
Set in the same world, but in the immediate aftermath of Alina’s war, comes Six of Crows. These books follow six teens from different backgrounds who come together to pull off an impossible heist.
Working to combine the books into one Shadow & Bone series is showrunner Eric Heisserer. The Arrival screenplay writer is a self-professed Grishaverse fan and very excited to get the chance to adapt the books.
Here’s the official series synopsis from Netflix:
In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.
Thanks to the announcement teaser, we also know a ballpark for when Shadow & Bone will arrive. You can expect the series to stream in April 2021.
So, what do you think of the Shadow & Bone teaser? If you’re also a fan of the novels, are you excited for the series? Nervous about how Netflix will combine Six of Crows into the mix? Let me know in the comments!
