We’re closing in on the end of 2020, that doesn’t mean we have to forget about all that happened this year though. We’ve had some ups and downs with Magic: the Gathering, but preview season is always fun. Kaldheim is the latest set for Magic and it’s looking like quite an adventure. Let’s dig into what you need to know about Preview season.
Previews Start Tomorrow!
That’s the timeline for what to expect out of Kaldheim. The previews start tomorrow and then kick back up again on January 7th. The world of Norse/Viking mythology from Magic is filled with new characters. We’ve got some firsts coming to our cast of characters as well.
Here we have Niko Aris and Tyvar Kell. Niko is the first non-binary planeswalker in the game, and they’re originally from Theros. Tyvar is the brother of the Elf-King Harald. In addition to these two characters, Kaya and Tibalt are making their return on Kaldheim.
The realm of Kaldheim is stepping firmly into the land of heavy metal imagery that would make Ronnie James Dio proud. They’re stepping up their game at Wizards of the Coast R&D.
Along with the Secret Lair: Heavy Metal edition, Kaldheim just looks like an album cover from Blind Guardian or other power metal bands. Check out some of the art below. The Collector Booster for the set has the same metal font and imagery as that Secret Lair.
The set releases January 28th on Magic Online and MTG: Arena. The paper release is February 5th.
