I don’t know about you all, but I am still trying to process all the amazing Star Wars project news we received from the Disney Investors Meeting. The next few years we have a lot to look forward to. But one of the biggest surprises was when Kathleen Kennedy announced that Hayden Christensen was reprising his role as Darth Vader for the new Obi-Wan Kenobi Series coming to Disney+. Not only did she announce it, she added, “This will be the rematch of the century.”
Hayden Christensen Speaks About His Return As Darth Vader
Wow, right? I don’t think any of us were expecting that. Well after the announcement thanks to a post at StarWars.com, we got to see Christensen’s first statement about his return as Darth Vader!
“It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker,” said Christensen. “Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them… It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”
The Obi Wan Kenobi series will take place 10 years after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. While there is still not a lot known about this series directed by Deborah Chow, there was a reel shown at the Disney Investor’s Meeting, of course only for investors, that showed more information about the upcoming series. Thanks to Comicbook.com we were able to learn about some of the details from that reel.
Obi-Wan Series Investor Reel
- There was some concept art that shows a Jedi, with their lightsaber ignited at the Jedi Temple. The Jedi was defending some Younglings as Darth Vader arrived with a legion of Clone Troopers.
- Another piece of concept art shows a stingray looking creature above slave workers on the planet of Tatooine. McGregor also teased at a view of a watery planet, where soldiers were firing at a sea creature. We Start on Tatooine, and we go on a rollicking adventure.”
- There was also an image of Darth Vader seated on a throne while he communicates with a hologram.
- Deborah Chow, also confirmed that we will “definitely see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader get into it again” as they see Obi-Wans blue blade clash with Darth Vader’s red blade.
It looks like we will be in for an amazing story, and with Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor back together, this series should be exciting. One big question is will hear Christensen as the voice of Darth Vader, or will we only his voice in flashbacks as Anakin? Also, if we only hear Christensen in flashbacks as Anakin, will James Earl Jones reprise the voice of Darth Vader?
